It's only a flesh wound

Today I'm thankful for ...

... the gash on my foot not being as bad as it could have been. Although, the scene was pretty gross.

While walking around the kitchen I tripped over a Dirt Devil vacuum on the floor. My toe hurt but I didn't think much of it---I'm pretty good with shaking off pain. And after a few minutes I went to go sit on the couch next to the boyfriend ... and that's when I saw the little puddle of juice near the carpet. Except ... it wasn't juice since I wasn't carrying a cup. Then I looked down and saw the mess I had been making.

Apparently I had ripped a neat little gash in the big toe and it caused quite a bit of a mess since I walked around the kitchen for a while before sitting down. And so I had a bit to clean up. A short bit later I was all cleaned up and I had the liquid bandage applied. The boyfriend helped me clean the kitchen up and remove the ugliness.

Networking

Today I'm thankful for ...

... professionals who know other professionals. My doctor referred me to another person who is pretty awesome.

Smooth sailing

Today I'm thankful for ...

... being in good health. I had my annual check-in with the doctor and we went over my numbers. He noticed high blood pressure, which doesn't surprise me in the least. I've been under a tremendous amount of pressure recently and I've been eating salty foods. But other than that everything else seems to check out neat and square.

Zzzz!

Today I'm thankful for ...

... getting good sleep. I thought I had a bit of a relapse today but it turns out not to be a big deal. Things are fine.

No pain, no ... pain!

Today I'm thankful for ...

... this is Day 3 of Prednisone. I think it's working. Really working. I had solid sleep this weekend and I'm feeling peppy. Thank goodness.

Happy New Year!

I have to admit, I'm cheating. It is actually January 6 when I'm writing this post, but I only just thought of this idea right now! (I'm backdating this post.)

I have been reading Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love" book about her journey of one year to find balance in her life. I'm near the end right now and she's talking about praying and expressing gratitude. So it occurs to me that I'm really thankful for many things. For the absolutely awesome people in my life, for having a fantastic job, for being able to travel, etc. But I somehow seem to always be too busy to really pause and give some sincere thought about how lucky I am in many respects. And while I'm listening to the BBC and hearing all about how disasters are happening all over our little blue planet, I wonder how can I add a little tiny bit of sunshine to this dreary landscape?

So, the idea is simple: find at least one thing each day I'm thankful for and write it down.

I'm sure quite a few people have done this, but this is my attempt. (Oh, who knows if I can remember to do this for 365 days?!) Anyways, let's do this thing!!!

Today I'm thankful for ...

... having wonderful friends, especially on New Years. To all the people I've known, you rock. We've had a year of great memories and I can't wait to have even more adventures in 2008! And to the people that I just met, you also rock. I hope to get to know you better!

... being in good health. I think I only got sick 1x this year, so my immune system certainly held up to all the coughing people on the Muni busses. (Knock on wood.)
